Earth Hour 60, 2010

Last Saturday night, 27 March 2010, it's an earth hour for this year again. I remember last year I have a good time with my kids in a shopping mall. But for this year, though we spent our dinner at the shopping mall for my hubby birthday celebration, we stay at home for this year earth hour event.

Since we have candles being lighted in the house, so I played some shadow puppet theater with them. The imagination run wild in me. The alligator, the butterfly, the bird, the horse all coming through my 2 magical hands in front the light of the candles. I formed the story based on whatever is coming out from my hands and my kids love it much ! It's kind of fun when you can do something out of your heart spontaneously. Whatever story that I can think of just came out from my mouth. It's good to let the kids feel how it is like without the light in the house.

Then my eldest try to mimic the way the Africa native people dance, around the candle light and his brother followed too ! it was fun and enjoyable to look at him dancing in that way. He did not learn it from anywhere but I know it's a true rhythm from his heart. Maybe my son has inherited my imaginative ability and creativity and he is just showing it out through his physical body. Just letting the prana flow across the body by following its rhythm spontaneously.

Hey son ! Mum just hope that you will keep up with you imagination & creativity as you grown up. Don't ever lose that very innocent ability !

Maybe starting from now on, I can have a story play with them every saturday night on weeklyl basis with the shadow dancing around ! Haha...

Namaste !

Forest School Concept

I came across an article on a magazine I bought from Hong Kong. It highlighted one of the school in sweden is using forest school concept for early child education. I was amused and totally impressed by the concept and article information. I guess most countries in europe are lucky enough to be blessed with a rich land full of abundant forest trees and variety. The 4 seasons weather conditions also contributed to the beautiful landscape and resourceful woodland. The article includes some pictures as well. There are kids that working together to build some structure;some squatting down, observing leaves, ants, soil, wriggling worms; though their cloths are pretty much full of mud or dirts, but you can see them with wide smile & content. Such a content smile that I think it's purest gift from God and truely from their heart.

Later I found out that the concept is originated from Sweden itself and has been implemented since 1950 , after a few stages of trial being conducted and the benefits are proven to be effective in improving early child social, health, communication and mental skills. I always believe that nature is our best teacher. This concept is fully supporting this. Well I might not be in the right position to truely explore the concept and introduce it in Malaysia, but I think it is possible to do so.

Here are some very usefull resources on forest school concept:

Forest Education Initiative (FEI)
UK Forest School
Forest School Resources

I know I will need it someday..

Have You Read/Tell A Story Today ?

I enjoy telstory telling, kids, imagination, creativityling story to my kids. Whether it is right before bed time or on the way to the school while I am driving. I prefer to tell it spontaneously. Spontaneous story telling let my creativity and imagination run wild.

In that way, I can use my imagination, my creativity and any possible words that I can think of to make up my story. There was once i make up a story about a Giant, that came out of nowhere, encompany my kids to supermarket for shopping ! When I was telling my kids this story, I was holding my younger boy, Jasper - 1 year old and acting out the story scene with some actions and movement. It was fun and they enjoy it a lot ! We laughed through out the whole session & my eldest Justin like it very much too !

My kids are my source of inspiration for story telling and they inspire me to expand my imagination & creativity. Not only in story telling but in making my own songs as well. I have made some kids songs based on things that they have shared with me and they enjoyed it too ! Frog, ducklings, bees, butterfly, during bathing time, sometimes we share some funny jokes as well and just burst out laughing !
